Line Clearing – Safety and Awareness

Infrastructure Health & Safety Association

This classroom based program provides hazard awareness to support workers who are involved in line clearing operations and related work that takes place in proximity to energized electrical equipment under the direct supervision of a journeyperson.

  • Comprehensive review of relevant legislation and the Electrical Utility Safety Rule Book
  • IHSA's Line Clearing Operations Safe Practice Guide (SPG8)
  • Safe limits of approach
  • Basic electrical theory
  • Basic hydraulics + holding valve checks - overview and practical demonstration*
  • Equipment pre-trip inspection
  • Personal protective equipment
  • Job planning/tailboard talks
  • Temporary work zones
  • Utility Work Protection Code
  • Tree climbing techniques

This overview does not comprise a complete or practical review of hydraulics, temporary work zones, Tree Climbing or certification under the Utility Work Protection Code.
